CELEBRITY REPORT

2 TALENTED WOMEN, 2 UNIQUE IDENTITIES, 2 EXTRAORDINARY VOICES
appear on the cover of this Fall's magazines

Lady Gaga has probably managed as many magazine covers as a supermodel.  Strip her away of all the fashion get up and you see raw beauty.  Aside from being a true artist, one of Lady Gaga's many strengths is she embraces the role she chooses to play, she becomes the character.  She makes you believe, yes I am this person at this moment while still keeping true to what she wants to be.

Amy Winehouse was given the gift to sing.  Who would've imagined her along side Tony Bennett singing a beautiful ballot, and when it comes to acapella well she was a songstress, her amazing voice just carried out so effortlessly.

WHAT I WORE: LAUNCH OF LUV2LUHK

Big things are happening! This past Friday I was invited to celebrate the launch of Luv2Luhk's "Concrete Jungle" Collection featured in the August 2011 issue of NYC based Corner Store Magazine.    Designer Xaymara Rodriguez and I have a few things in common.. passion, creative individuality, and we both love color!
In a Q&A with Corner Store Magazine, CSM ask Xaymara "What advice would you give someone wanting to start a career in fashion?"
Xaymara:  Don't try to follow somene else's ways of being creative.  You just have to find what works for you and just continute to be you, because at the end of the day that's what's going to matter".

Exactly!  Snapped4Style loves that answer as much as we love your leopard leggings and bringing back the 1940s retro hairdo!  Also, designed by Xaymara, Corner Store Art Director, Kathy Rodriguez's Boogy Woogy Bugle Boy Halter Military Dress.  Good Luck and "Become Your Dream"- De La Vega

CALL ME CARAMEL

I never thought I would see the color of butterscotch on my nails, but I love it.  It reminds me of candy caramels.  Spring/Summer 2011 introduced pops of orange citrus as a trend.  As we transition into the Fall season oranges get warmer and colors like coppers, rust, and burnt oranges welcome us into the Autumn.

TREND REPORT: THE RUGGED GENTLEMEN

Spain doesn't always get as much credit as they deserve for being so fashion forward, even with brands like Custo Barcelona, Zara, and Mango under their belt.  When I think of fashion and Spain, I think Barcelona, but low and behold Palma de Mallorca, the center city of Spain's Balearic Islands has a little sumpin' sumpin going on here in fashion as well.  I was here for a few days.  My main focus on this vacay was to have some QT with me, not fashion related, but I couldn't help snap some pictures of the latest trend happening for men in which I'd like to call "The Rugged Gentlemen".  This look consist of the lodgey, outdoors man, mixed with the suit and tie gentleman.

Look #1: Vest and Bow Tie, Button Down and Patched Ripped Jeans
For the men that love the bow tie, here's a way to update the look while adding swag and looking fresh in it.

SNAPPIN' ART IN THE STREET: NOLITA

It's been a bit since I've posted art that inspires me in the streets of NYC.  I love the 1st one.  It was on the side of a tall building.  I'm drawn to vibrant colors and it's message "Create The Life You Live."

WHAT I WORE: SATURDAY NIGHT

I was invited to a birthday get together at Cibar in the Gramercy Park area of NYC.  The venue is upscale yet quaint. So as my friend Catalina put it, attire called for "casual but sophisticated".
Photobucket
Hmmmm, what do I have that's casually sophisticated ? Got it! A sequin top paired with jeans. Simple enough. I decided to roll the cuff up and not wear hose with my caged shoes to add length to my legs while still keeping it cool for warm early September nights.
With Winter approaching you'll see this shirt and many other items worn again in different styles.
I loved the vintage/flapper influence of this sequin top.  I also did not get to wear my caged ankle booties purchased last Winter so Tis' the season!

SNEAKER EDITION: BACK TO THE PRESENT NIKE MAG 2011

After years of Back to The Future fans on numerous websites requesting that Nike bring back the Marty McFly's, even I was one of them. Nike and The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research BRING BACK THE MAG!

These spaced age sneakers appeared in the clasic 1989 Back to The Future. All things 80s was so good they always bring it back! For 22 years theyexisted only in the year 2015 on Marty McFly’s feet.  For whatever reason they didn't want to remake the futuristic kicks.  Now, 1500 of them were created for a cause.  The limited edition sneakers are being auctioned on Ebay from now until December 18th.  All proceeds will go to the Micheal J. Fox Foundation to fund research on a cure for Parkinson's.

Famed Nike designer Tinker Hatfield and footwear innovator Tiffany Beers have returned to recreate the footwear legend. Based on an original movie prop used in Back to the Future Part II, the 2011 Nike MAG shoes have been entirely rebuilt and perfected.

They feature an electroluminescent outsole, space-age materials and a rechargeable internal battery good for 3,000 hours.  I guarantee we'll be seeing Kanye West in them.

Take a look at the fun commercial introducing them with the original "Dr. Emmett Brown".

SNAPPIN' IN THE STREET: SOHO

There was an overall simplicity to her look with sophisticated, vintage, and futuristic accents. Laid back, easy, yet classy.  Hipster with a touch of Uptown Girl. The leopard loafers and soft chiffon  blouse got me. Add a Chanel bag and Voila! A simple palette in light fabrics, perfect for Pre-Fall.

CELEBRITY TREND REPORT: BEST DRESSED MTV MUSIC AWARDS 2011

So we're now into Fashion Week, however I did say I'd get back to you with my pick for Best Dressed at the MTV Music Awards and since I only had 2 it made this fashion task very simple!

FEMALE:  Beyonce in Lanvin
I loved the color and cut of this dress.  A modern take on the traditional Indian sarees. She swept her hair in low side ponytail and kept it plain around the collar to accentuate the one shoulder. Paired with bold accessories, this look created a sexy and sophisticated statement.

MALE: Ne-Yo
I've always said there's something sexy about a man who's confident to wear color.  I love the mix of coppers, soft lava, and metallics.  It adds texture to the whole look.  Paired with basics, JUMP high tops, and his signature fedora styled hats, Ne-Yo knows how to pull of swag!

FACEBOOK FASHIONISTA: LUV2LUHK

Well, fashionistas travel in fashionista circles.  That's how I came across Xaymara, an emerging fashion designer with her own line LUV2LUHK.  What attracted me most to Xaymara aside from her bold style is she's a fierce chameleon.  You almost wouldn't know it's the same girl in her pics.  Both these ladies are collaborating to celebrate the release of Kat's Cornerstore August magazine issue & Luv2Luhk 1st ever magazine spread, an event I will also be covering so stayed tuned.  I love it when Latinas do their thing!
If you think if you're a Facebook Fashionista submit photos to snapped4style@yahoo.com.  You will be notified if you're picked!

SNAPPIN' IN THE STREET

It's breathtaking to see vintage that looks fresh and modern!  Cat was cornered at Union Square in front of her cosmetology school looking like a tartan statuesque.  It reminded me of the dress forms displayed at Alexander McQueen's Savage Beauty Exhibit, for the 1995 Highland Rape Collection.  As reported by Style.com, "Fall runways were blanketed in tartan".   I love how Cat beautifully transitions into Fall while pairing it with pieces that say Summer please don't leave!  Thank you for getting Snapped4Style!

Everything on Cat is Vintage except her ankle booties.
She layered her lace top over a strapless sweetheart corset with pointed bra cups.
Her friend gave her the vintage purse
Her ankle boots are from last year

WHAT I WORE: LABOR DAY WEEKEND 2011

I took it easy for the Labor Day Weekend, stayed local and did the Beer Garden, BBQ thing. Nothing crazy....saving myself for my trip to Ibiza & Mallorca in 10 days ! Here's what I wore....

FRIDAY: BEER GARDEN
The weather this evening was Summer meets a Fall breeze so I incorporated some Fall items like the denim jacket and suede loafers with a summer maxi dress.

SATURDAY: BACKYARD BBQ
Just because it's in a backyard, doesn't mean you can't dress up.  Any or every occassion can call for an ensemble.  Since the Summer breezed by I never got to wear these floral shorts, so I was more than happy to throw them on for some BBQ fun! I mixed prints and thought sailor stripes along with a red/white/blue palette was an appropiate way to close the summer.
Top: H&M

MONDAY:  GOVERNOR'S ISLAND
This place is truly majestic.  Someone once asked me where do you go to get a way from it all in NYC? Governor's Island would definitely be one of them.  This historic island that once was a Military Base and also housed the Coast Guards that would port in the NY Harbor is a sanction of tranquility. There are beautifully bricked homes & buildings built in the early 1800-1930s surrounded by great green lawns and a picnic area with hammocks, swings, large chairs and picnic tables that overlook the water and Lady Liberty.  This is where I found my peace on this American Holiday.
